1916    Replacement Dwelling, West Norfolk

Our client has lived for many years on the site, with their existing home sitting adjacent to a large man-made pond, hidden away down a dirt track. This site has been densely planted with native trees around the extent of the pond, and the effect is one of an oasis within the flat landscape of the fens.

The proposed replacement dwelling is a cruciform shape; a single storey barn-like dwelling, with the living accommodation raised up above the level of the flood zone. The form is oriented to both the lake and the sun path, with the main living space projecting outwards towards the lake, allowing it to get the benefit of the sun throughout the day. The roof projects over a covered walkway to the west, providing solar shading to the house, and terminating in a cantilevered sitting area which projects over the pond.
